Members Art History Lecture
Curator's Choice
November 4, 2009
7–8:30 pm
Plestcheeff Auditorium

The Seattle Art Museum has one of the finest Asian collections in the country. While the vast majority of SAM's Asian artworks remain in Seattle, 98 treasured pieces have been traveling in Japan since July, with exhibitions at five different Japanese museums. A sumptuous exhibition catalogue has been created for the show, which is titled Luminous Jewels: Masterpieces of Asian Art from the Seattle Art Museum.

The catalogue includes a wealth of new scholarly research yet presently it is only available in Japanese. (Catalogues will be available for purchase at the lecture.) At this Members Art History Lecture, interim curator Catherine Roche shares highlights from this exciting research and provides a spirited update on the whereabouts of our intrepid voyagers.

The lecture is from 7 to 8 pm, followed by a short dessert reception.

Please enter at the First Avenue and University Street entrance; doors will open at 6:30 pm. Please note that the museum closes to the public at 5 pm; therefore the galleries will not be accessible.

Event information is subject to change.

Members: $5
Adults: $9
