John Cage: Themes and Variations
Catharina Manchanda / Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art
Carrie Dedon / Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art
Highly experimental and innovative composer John Cage has been deeply influential to generations of artists. His eight-part Plexigram sculpture Not Wanting to Say Anything About Marcel recently joined SAM’s collection and is our entry point to discussing how Cage pushed boundaries in music and art with his embrace of chance operations and everyday sounds.
Lectures are held the third Wednesday of the month at the Seattle Art Museum. Doors open at 6:30 pm for Happy Hour in the South Hall where you can enjoy complimentary wine. Curator talks begin at 7 pm in Plestcheeff Auditorium.
