As Youth Carrying The Future: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Die Brücke
Carrie Dedon / Assistant Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art
German artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880–1938) was a key member of the highly influential artist’s group Die Brücke (The Bridge), which sought to radically upend the academic arts of the past and form a “bridge” to the art of the future. Kirchner’s painting Frau und Mädchen (Woman and Girl) (ca. 1922–23) in SAM’s collection will be our entry point to discuss how this artist pushed boundaries in the art of his time, and helped shape the art of today.
Doors open at 6:30 pm for Happy Hour in the South Hall where you can enjoy complimentary wine. Curator talks begin at 7 pm in Plestcheeff Auditorium.
