Charmingly intimate stories, irreverence, whimsy, and wit are on rollicking display in this series of British comedy gems. Quirky people, skeptical of authority, try to get what they want in life, and they illuminate the foibles and glories of us all. With, among others, Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers, Joan Greenwood, Alastair Sim, Margaret Rutherford, Audrey Hepburn, and Michael Caine.
about the film
At the urging of his aunt (Margaret Rutherford) a naïve Oxford graduate (Ian Carmichael) tries to find a place for himself in the post-war surge of British industry. In short order, his uncle (Dennis Price) and his partner (Richard Attenborough) make Carmichael a pawn in their underhanded dealings. He soon antagonizes both elitist management and labor (shop steward Peter Sellers), but he learns a lot. Will he expose all the secret business shenanigans on a TV panel show? With Terry-Thomas. Digital restoration, 105 min.
