Plein Air Painting at the Park

Sep 18 2021

Olympic Sculpture Park

North Terrace

10 AM – 12:30 PM

A well-know plein-air painter, Monet found artistic inspiration in the cliffs of Étretat. SAM is taking inspiration from Monet and partnering with Plein Air Washington Artists to provide a demonstration of techniques for painting outdoors at the Olympic Sculpture Park. Visitors are invited to observe and learn from the artists throughout park as they paint the stunning scenery of Seattle's waterfront.

Plein Air, pronounced “plehn air,” translates from the French, "to paint in fresh air," meaning to head outside and paint what you see and what you feel! See how these painters translate the landscape and views of the park into painterly scenes with demonstrations taking place at 10:30 and 11:30 am. And don't miss seeing a plein-air painter fascinated by the effects of changing conditions of light and weather on the landscape in 10 scenes from the Normandy coast in Monet at Étretat at Seattle Art Museum through October 17.

Free and open to the public.
