DESCRIPTION:This exhibition celebrates an alternative and oft-overlooked story in art h
 istory: the aesthetic practices that emerged on the West Coast in the 1960s
  and ‘70s as a counter to the New York-centric avant-garde. Join one of SAM
 ’s volunteer docents on a lively and thought-provoking tour. Engage with ot
 her visitors and discover diverse personal connections while exploring crea
 tively installed galleries and outstanding works of art. Poke in the Eye in
 corporates works by renowned Northwest artists including Patti Warashina\, 
 Fay Jones\, and Howard Kottler\, whose innovative and playfully garish crea
 tions provided the foundations of this alternative movement\, as well as mo
 re recent artworks by Jeffry Mitchell and Woody De Othello\, whose contempo
 rary sculptures have revived a global interest in craft and ceramic art. \n
 This free-with-admission 60-minute tour will meet at the entrance to the ex
 hibition on the fourth floor.
