SUMMARY:Exploring Asian Art: Form\, Function\, and Interpretation
DESCRIPTION:Spend three days exploring works of Asian art on display at the Seattle Art
Museum and Seattle Asian Art Museum. In partnership with the East Asia Res
ource Center at the University of Washington\, we will consider the origina
l context within which objects were created and follow them along their pat
hs of trade\, transformation\, and influence. This session will include clo
se consideration of objects of devotion\, utilitarian objects\, and contemp
orary expressions crafted from a multitude of materials and taking shape in
various forms. Additionally\, we will discuss points of inspiration taken
by artists who encounter these works anew and as part of the legacy of thei
r cultural heritage.\nThis three-day intensive workshop will connect the ob
jects in the collection of the Seattle Art Museum to curriculum across subj
ects\, including Social Studies\, Visual Art\, World History\, Language Art
s\, Asian Studies\, and Art History. Engage with resources firsthand and ex
plore what you can bring back to your classroom. Educators from the Seattle
Art Museum and the East Asia Resource Center will provide frameworks for i
ntegrating the museum collection into your teaching practice.
