SUMMARY:SAM Films: Coronation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for screenings of films related to Ai\, Rebel: The Art and Activism
of Ai Weiwei curated by FOONG Ping\, SAM Foster Foundation Curator of Chin
ese Art. These films are provided courtesy of Ai Weiwei Studio.\nCoronation
 \, 2020\nVideo (1 hour\, 53 minutes)\nCoronation portrays China’s state mac
hinery in action during crisis management\, focusing on the suffering of in
dividuals due to the severe social-control measures taken during lockdown i
n Wuhan\, the epicenter of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Functioning as his
eyes and ears on the ground\, a crew hired by Ai filmed covertly\, with co
ntributions from volunteers. In Europe during the pandemic\, Ai remotely mo
bilized these amateur cinematographers. China’s tight controls undoubtedly
flattened the curve of its casualty count but had their own terrible costs.
From safety pep rallies to individual tragedies\, the personal experiences
recorded here are poignant and enlightening.\nTickets\nFree with RSVP
