Summer Institute for Educators: Learning From the Local

Aug 7 – 8 2024

Seattle Art Museum

Arnold Board Room (entire)

10:30 AM – 4 PM

Join fellow educators from across the region for an in-gallery exploration of how Northwest artists utilize a variety of mediums to express their identities and ideas. Then, try out lesson plans and hands-on activities inspired by SAM’s ongoing exhibitions!

This workshop will make connections between counterculture, community, diversity, and narratives, while highlighting SAM’s collection and Poke in the Eye: Art of the West Coast Counterculture.

Join us for this two-day in-person workshop at the Seattle Art Museum. Explore, learn, and create with a community of educator peers.

This workshop is free to attend, but reservations are required. This workshop includes resources and Washington State Clock Hours. K–12 educators, paraeducators, subject area coaches, and administrators are welcome to attend.

Support for K-12 programs during the 2022-2023 school year is provided by the BNSF Railway Foundation, Foster Foundation, and Freeman Foundation. Partial, sustained support for SAM’s K-12 programs is provided by an endowment established in 1999 by a National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant and the generous contributions of matching donors, including the Ann P. Wyckoff Education Endowment. The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for Education Programs at the Seattle Art Museum has supported SAM K–12 programs since 1994.
