May is Member Month at SAM and all month long, we’ve got member-first programming across all three locations.
Be among the first to see Monochrome: Calder and Tara Donovan and experience a fun, artful evening with member perks! Enjoy a member reception where you can sip a complimentary drink from the bar with a tasty dessert from 5 to 6 pm, and learn more about the exhibition with a short 15-minute talk at 6 pm by Catharina Manchanda, Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. Additional drinks can be purchased at $1 off the rest of the evening at SAM Happy Hour in the Forum.
Member Month is your invitation to make Seattle Art Museum your third space. Create, wander, and follow your curiosity through art making, expert-led tours, member-only perks, and a few delightful surprises along the way. Learn more about Member Month!
Monochrome: Calder and Tara Donovan, the latest iteration of the Calder at SAM initiative, presents two iconic works by Alexander Calder with mesmerizing installations of Brooklyn-based artist Tara Donovan. These works are distinguished by a single color or material to draw attention to pattern and volume. Challenge your perception of intricate, changing forms as you move between Calder’s dramatic black mobile and stabile and Donovan’s large-scale structures animated by light.
