SAM Remix

Fri Mar 28 2025

7–11 pm

Seattle Art Museum

Entire Building

Seattle's favorite after-hours museum event is back. Taking notes from Ai, Rebel: The Art and Activism of Ai Weiwei, SAM Remix will showcase the power of art to make change through genre-smashing musicians, works by provocateur artist Ai Weiwei, and DIY art workshops. These are difficult times, people, so we need art to bring us out of the darkness in true Seattle grunge fashion!

Join us for gallery explorations, a fashion show, stand-up comedy, and more during this evening exploring all forms of artistic rebellion.

The place: Seattle Art Museum from 7–11 pm on Friday, March 28. The attitude: ornery but creative. The dress code: punk chic. The first 100 attendees to arrive dressed on theme will receive one free drink ticket.

Galleries and South Hall will be accessible from 7–10:30 pm. Programming and activities will continue in the Brotman Forum until 11 pm.

Buy your tickets ahead of time to secure your spot as this event will likely sell out.

What's happening

Brotman Forum

7–7:50 pm
Seattle Art Museum’s Director Scott Stulen embraces his inner DJ to welcome you to Remix. Get to SAM when doors open to find out what’s on Scott's playlist.

7–10 pm
Commemorate the night with a (temporary) tattoo inspired by Ai Weiwei’s art. Choose from flash designs by Ink by Bailee, or try your hand at DIY body art using a temporary ink pen.

7:50–8 pm & 9–9:10 pm
Queer artist collective BeautyBoiz is bringing in their troop of punk performers to party with you in the crowd. Catch a vibrant drag performance that is sure to leave you wanting more.

8–9 pm & 9:15–10:15 pm
Groove to the eclectic beats of Nick Carroll chosen by False Prophet, a collective beloved for their post-punk and cold wave sound.

10:15–11 pm
With her dynamic vocals, anthemic melodies, and raw lyricism, hardcore pop artist TeZATalks brings her electrifying energy to the stage.

South Hall

7–10:30 pm
Create your fashion statement at Dan McLean’s accessory station using denim scraps and vintage zippers straight from her runway | Location: Chase Open Studio (middle of the South Hall stairs)

Express yourself on paper at a zine-making table, where you can make a book with collage materials and museum periodicals. | Location: Education Resource Center (top of the South Hall stairs)

We love our SAM members. Get VIP access to an exclusive member-only lounge with a fun photo booth and comfy seating—the perfect spot to kick back and relax for a bit! | Location: Market Terrace (bottom of South Hall)

7–8 pm & 8:45–9:30 pm
Rock out to the industrial and dark DJ beats of collective False Prophet featuring Kadeejah Streets, known for his sonic smorgasbord sets of house, disco, acid, EBM, electro, breaks, techno, and more.

7:30–8:15 pm & 8:45–9:30 pm
The Southeast Asian Comedy Collective presents two hilarious shows that explore what it means to be a modern-day rebel. | Location: Plestcheeff Auditorium (bottom of South Hall)

8–8:45 pm
King Sheim embodies the epitome of punk-pop vibes. Expect lots of screaming, humorous and confessional lyrics, and platform boots.

9:30–10:15 pm
Dan McLean’s runway show, UNZIPPED, reimagines the utilitarian object as a piece of art. See zippers and denim transform into avant-garde sculptures fit for a museum gallery.

Arnold Boardroom

7–10:30 pm
Snap a keepsake picture of your punk-chic outfit at SAM’s photo booth.

In-gallery activities

7–10:30 pm
We’re turning to you: Scan the QR codes around the Modern Art galleries to vote on what you would or wouldn’t curate in your own gallery. If everything is art, and everything is politics, then what’s in a museum is an expression of the ways museums foster, embrace, or reject political conversations. Explore others’ responses and help us create our own REMIXed museum! | Location: Modern Art Galleries (3rd Floor)

For a low-sensory activity, head to the Family Room for puzzles and games. | Location: American Art: The Stories We Carry (3rd Floor)

7:30–8 pm & 8:30–9 pm
Catch a guided tour of Ai, Rebel: The Art and Activism of Ai Weiwei with FOONG Ping, SAM Foster Foundation Curator of Chinese Art. Please honor your ticketed time slot to attend this tour. | Location: Ai, Rebel entrance (4th floor)

8–8:30 pm & 9–9:30 pm
Discover the wonders inside SAM’s famous Porcelain Room, focusing on the fantastical commission by Diego Cibelli and the historical fresco by Giovanni Tiepolo with a tour by José Carlos Diaz, SAM's Susan Brotman Deputy Director for Art. | Location: Porcelain Room (Meet at the top of the 4th floor escalator.)

SAM Shop

7–11 pm
SAM Shop will be open during Remix and hosting a game of art trivia. Get the question right and a special prize or discount could be yours!
