Join SAMâs 2024-25 Constance W. Rice Fellow, Carina A. del Rosario (she/her), for a drop-in art activity that will become part of Lay Your Burden Down, Carinaâs participatory fellowship project. Community members are invited to share their burdens with her on mulberry paper. After treating the paper, she will lead sewing circles to sew and embroider these burdens onto fabric that will later be used to create the installation. Join Carina in a sewing circle to hold submitted burdens and stitch care for them as a contribution to a larger textile artwork that will be installed at Seattle Art Museum once completed.
Born in the Philippines, Carina A. del Rosario immigrated to the United States as a young girl. She started honing her observational skills early as she navigated her new home. She has studied photography with Magnum Photographer Alex Webb, Rebecca Norris Webb, Raul Touzon and Eddie Soloway, and has been mentored by numerous visual artists in Seattle. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums, mounted as public installations in Washington and Arizona, and supported by the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, King Countyâs 4Culture, Kent Arts Commission, Sound Transit, the Puffin Foundation and the Pride Foundation.
