Play, create, and connect in the Brotman Forum every first, second, and third Saturday, 11 am–2 pm. This lively space is filled with hands-on art making, concerts, and moments of community—all inspired by SAM’s permanent collections and exhibitions.
Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a curious newcomer, or just looking for a place to recharge this weekend, you’re always welcome. Learn about the artwork through interactive activities, meet new friends, or simply enjoy the atmosphere before exploring the galleries.
Programs in SAM’s gathering spaces in the museum’s entry area are always free and open to everyone. Bring your curiosity and imagination, we’ll provide the rest.
SAM Performs: George Sadak and House of Tarab
George is a percussionist whose roots trace back to the deep rhythms of Egypt. Growing up on drum kits, he moved fluidly through jazz, Gulf, and Balkan styles, always returning to his first love: Egyptian tabla. George has built a career bridging traditional and contemporary sounds. In 2011, he founded Anubis Nights, a weekly music and dance showcase blending Egyptian classics with world music, jazz, and belly dance. Anubis Nights continues every Friday and Saturday at Harissa, celebrating rhythm, movement, and the shared joy of live performance.
SAM Creates: Zine Making with Katrina Van Strien
Step into the vibrant world of zine creation at our drop-in workshop, where you'll discover how this accessible art form can capture culture and personal narratives. Make your own zine and/or contribute to a collaborative one. Pop by for a quick burst of creativity, or settle in and make a zine inspired by the magical world of Alfredo Arreguín in his colorful and highly-patterned piece, Four Self-Portraits.
This workshop empowers participants of all ages and skill levels to create and personalize zines at their own pace. This hands-on activity offers a tangible connection to the museum's American Art: The Stories We Carry exhibition by mirroring how zines have historically captured personal expression and cultural moments.
